Kazakhstan’s booming oil and gas industry is transforming the countryside. New oil prospects along the coast of the Caspian Sea have given momentum for development across the nation. Cities are invented from nothing as industrial centers begin construction, and a vast infrastructure is being laid down to bring connectivity to the region.
Taking advantage of the employment opportunities, Alexey Naydenov has just begun a career in the IT field. Alexey comes from a challenging economic background, and wasn’t able to pursue formal network training. Made possible by his self-determination and curiosity about networking and the Internet, he has launched a career as a Networking Officer for ITC Electronics’ branch in Saipem, Kazakhstan.
Alexey first considered obtaining his Cisco Certification after speaking with friends and colleagues in the IT field. Intrigued by the possibilities, he began to research the Internet and on Cisco’s website. After sifting through piles of references and study-guides, and after long hours of self-study, Alexey acquired his CCENT certification.
“Once I joined ICT Electronics, it became clear that I needed some kind of industry validation,” said Alexey. “I wanted to demonstrate my desire for self-improvement, and to develop a set of skills to distinguish my resume. Well, I decided to start with Cisco. I have absolutely no regrets, and I honestly had no idea how helpful the certification would be. It practically handed me a career.”
When asked about his present job, Alexey was happy to share details, “My principal duties are centered around the development of large LAN projects. With the current demand for oil and gas infrastructure, there is a lot of new construction going on in Khazakhstan. As these buildings go up, there is a strong need for networking expertise and installation oversight, so I help put new networks online. Where our networks are already in place, I monitor their workability and serviceability.”
As he has developed technical know-how, his company has placed increasing trust in his skills. Looking ahead, Alexey anticipates the completion of his CCNA and has plans to complete his CCVP soon after. As his responsibilities grow, he has hopes to move into the IT management field.
